Many works of Eelam fiction have been written about the human catastrophe that unfolded over thirty years. One kind foregrounds direct portrayals drawn from experience, weaving fiction with a documentary quality. Another draws on the same experiences while embracing the aesthetic dimensions of literature. Theiveegan has moved away from both these approaches and chosen a different terrain.

He brings the homeland into bloom through memory, linking it to the events of life in the diaspora. Most of the stories take place in Australia, where he lives. But their central characters are all from Eelam.
